PADI Open Water Diver
If you've always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, discover new adventures or simply see the wondrous world beneath the waves, this is where it starts. The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world's most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.
What will I do?
The PADI Open Water Diver Referral course consists of three main phases:
Knowledge Development - Self-study knowledge development and 2 classroom sessions
Confined Water Dives - 5 dives in a pool to learn the basic scuba skills
Open Water Dives - 4 open water dives to put your skills into practice and to have fun
If you've tried diving through a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of the full PADI Open Water Diver course certification.
What scuba gear will I use?
Dream Divers will provide all your basic scuba diving equipment, including: mask, snorkel and fins, a buoyancy compensating jacket that also carries your scuba tank, a scuba regulator to breathe from, instrumentation to monitor depth and air supply, a wetsuit for pool use and drysuit and undersuit to keep you warm during your open water dives.
How do I start learning now?
PADI offers a variety of home-study materials for the Open Water Diver course. The most popular method of self-study is the PADI Touch which installs onto your tablet and is fully interactive with videos and tutorials to help you learn in the easiest way. Download the "PADI Library by PADI Americas, Inc" for a demo version of the PADI Open Water Diver touch materials.
Don't worry, if you don't have a tablet or iPad there is either the PADI Open Water Ultimate crew pack which includes the manual and DVD or your PADI eLearning which is fully web based theory. For each concept or skill in the course you'll read a description, then watch a video or demonstration to ensure that you fully understand. At the end of each section there is a knowledge review (5 in total) which you need to fill out and complete before coming to the classroom sessions.
Course Upgrades
The PADI Open Water Diver Course can be completed in conjunction with the PADI Drysuit Diver and PADI Nitrox Diver. If you want to continue to scuba dive in the UK and plan on renting cold water scuba equipment, including a drysuit, you will require a PADI Drysuit Diver certification. We offer both of these courses as upgrade options while completing your Open Water course. These are as follows:
PADI Drysuit Diver £150
Includes one additional drysuit dive, manual and certification fee.
PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Diver £120
Includes combined nitrox dives, manual and certification fee
